Hey y’all! I’m Charlie Mertens. I’m a designer & illustrator born and raised on Long Island, NY. From October 2016-January 2017 my girlfriend and I lived out of our Jeep Cherokee while camping across America, before eventually landing in Portland, Oregon.
Upon arriving in Portland I spent a few months pursuing my other passion, specialty coffee, while also freelance designing part time. I learned pretty quickly that my love for coffee was better suited as a hobby and that design is where my true passion will always lie.
I’m a huge fan of vintage sports uniform design, and am a die hard New York Mets fan. Apparel design has always been my main area of focus, and I ran my own clothing brand The Beaten Path Distribution for a few years while living in New York.
Living in Portland has given me more than I could ever ask for. From hiking and camping every weekend, to drinking the tastiest craft beer around, to skateboarding at parks I grew up dreaming of one day visiting. It’s safe to say I’ve fallen in love with the Pacific Northwest and look forward to more adventures here in my favorite place on Earth.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing people, brands, and companies over the years. Past work includes: Aerobie Aeropress, Auburn University, Bible Study Media, Bull Run Cannabis, Corpus Christi Hooks, Certified Kind, Expire (Band), The Game Headwear, Georgia Southern University, Girl Scouts of America, Howe Caverns, Logan Morrison (MLB), Mishka NYC, Nike, National Psoriasis Foundation, Perfect Daily Grind, Swiss Water Decaf, Table Three Media, Weatherproof Outerwear, Young Life Camps.
